If you’ve ever had those addictive, crispy shrimp chips from your favorite Asian market and thought, “I could definitely make these at home,” then it’s time to roll up your sleeves and give this ridiculously easy—and incredibly delicious—recipe a try! These shrimp chips, made with just three simple ingredients—shrimp, seaweed, and rice paper—are taken to the next level with a flavor-packed seasoning that’s inspired by the ever-popular Taiwanese popcorn chicken. It’s a snack that’s crunchy, savory, and perfectly seasoned with a mouthwatering combo of five-spice powder, garlic powder, and a dash of heat, making each bite an irresistible little crunch fest.

The magic behind this recipe lies in its simplicity. Imagine taking juicy shrimp and smashing them onto a square of rice paper, creating a thin, crispy base that crisps up beautifully when fried. The shrimp naturally infuses the rice paper with its umami goodness, creating a delightful contrast between the tender, succulent shrimp and the crispy, delicate wrapper. Then, to make these chips really sing, you sprinkle on the seasoning that brings that nostalgic Taiwanese street food flavor right to your fingertips. Think of it as the crispy snack version of popcorn chicken—but shrimp style!

Once the shrimp and rice paper hit the hot oil, something truly magical happens. The rice paper puffs up, and the shrimp turns into a delightful, crispy morsel that’s packed with savory flavor. The seasoning, a mix of aromatic five-spice powder, a touch of garlic, and a hint of heat, transforms the humble shrimp chip into a crave-worthy snack. It’s a zesty explosion of flavor with every crunchy bite, and the seasoning adds just enough warmth without overwhelming the shrimp’s natural sweetness.

What’s truly amazing about these shrimp chips is how versatile they are. You can nibble on them solo, letting the crispy, seasoned shrimp do all the talking. Or, take them to the next level by pairing them with your favorite dipping sauce—something tangy like sweet chili sauce, or even a spicy sriracha mayo. It’s a great way to impress guests at a party or to treat yourself to a snack that’s both exotic and comforting at the same time. Plus, they’re easy to make in small batches, so you can snack as you go, ensuring fresh, piping-hot shrimp chips every time.

Ready to try your hand at this snackable sensation? It’s so simple, yet so delicious, and perfect for anyone looking to make something special with minimal ingredients. So grab your rice paper, shrimp, and seasoning, and get ready to dive into a world of crispy, seasoned shrimp goodness. These homemade shrimp chips are guaranteed to be your new favorite crispy crunch—and once you start munching, you won’t be able to stop!

  • 4 4 rice paper

  • 2 2 seaweed sheets

  • 2 tbsp 2 flour

  • 2 tbsp 2 water

  • vegetable oil for frying

  • Seasoning After Fry
  • 2 tsp 2 five spice powder

  • 2 tsp 2 chili powder

  • 2 tsp 2 garlic salt

  • 2 tsp 2 garlic powder

  • 1 tsp 1 sugar

Directions

  • Peel and devein shrimps leaving the tail on.
  • Cut rice paper into fours and cut seaweed sheets half the size of the rice paper.
  • Smash the shrimp directly onto the rice paper and seaweed where the shrimp will stick onto the surface. Add a little bit of flour and water mixture to help glue down the shrimp.
  • Heat up oil to 350F degrees or until your wooden chopsticks bubble at the end when you stick it in the oil. Carefully drop a shrimp rice paper into the oil and spoon oil over it to help cook evenly. Once the shrimp is orange and the rice paper has fully crisped up, remove from oil.
